Professional Foot Care Services in Birmingham, West Midlands

As a state-registered chiropodist and foot specialist, I am qualified to provide a wide range of treatments. Based in Birmingham, West Midlands, I draw upon more than 25 years of professional experience to provide remedies to a number of foot problems. This includes effective ingrown toenail surgery.

Ingrown Toenails

Most often, ingrown toenails occur on one or both sides of the largest toe. The nail has become involuted or too highly curved. Ingrown toenails may occur for a number of reasons, including:

  • The Nail is Too Thick for the Nail Bed
  • The Nail Has Been Cut Badly, Causing a Jagged Edge
  • The Nail Has Become Involuted

Treatment Methods

There are 2 methods of treatment for ingrown toenails. The first is a conservative treatment. This involves managing the nail without the use of a local anaesthetic. The nail is reshape do and any jagged edges are

smoothed down with a blacks file. Thick nails may also be thinned. The second method is a minor nail procedure. This involves partial nail avulsion, simply removing the sides of the nail, or removing the nail entirely.

Verrucae, Corns, and Calluses

It’s easy to get confused about the differences between a corn and a verruca. It’s a wise idea to ask a professional to determine which one you have. As a general rule, a corn is more commonly seen among children and young adults. A verruca has the appearance of numerous black pin-hole spots. The black spots are tiny capillaries that have pinched up in the skin formation and do not have the normal skin striations running through them. A verruca is painful when pinched, while a corn is painful when pressed directly.

Calluses are localised areas of hard skin. Corns, on the other hand, have a centralised area of hard skin with a nucleus and are formed when pressure is applied to a bony prominence. Calluses are caused by rubbing or sheering pressures – the result of ill-fitting shoes, or uneven pressure when walking

Treatment Methods

Acid treatment may be used to treat verrucae. The one-off treatment is more effective than any over-the-counter treatment. Corns and Calluses are derided using a scalpel and then an abrasive cap is used to smooth any rough skin leaving the area soft and smooth. A moisturizing cream is then applied to make the skin more supple to avoid cracking.

Biomechanical Assessment

A biomechanical assessment is an investigation into lower limb function. Abnormalities and compensations that establish themselves in gait patterns are closely inspected. I pay special attention to the possible underlying causes of heel, knee, back, and foot pain.

Sports Injury Treatments

Sports injuries may be treated with orthotics, which reduce the risk of reoccurring injuries by stabilising the foot and strengthening the lower limb to improve performance. When asymmetry is discovered in your gait, it is advisable to have bespoke devices produced at a laboratory. An in-depth examination will take place in this event, and detailed measurements will be collected. Then, your feet will be casted in a neutral position using plaster of Paris. These results are sent to a laboratory, which will produce a custom-made set of orthotics.

Swift microwave – innovative verruca and wart treatment

Swift verruca treatment is an innovative new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licenced for the general treatment of verrucas and warts in Podiatry. Swift uses microwave energy delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue.

Fungal Infections

Fungal infections may manifest for a number of different reasons. They may be treated using a variety of anti-fungal products. However, it is essential that fungal infections are managed by a professional. Simply using anti-fungal products will not eliminate the condition entirely. There is a high chance that the infection will return if not managed properly. Anti-fungal nail paints are also available to purchase within my clinic.
